This requirement applies to working as a co-counsel with another UK or foreign law firm. We can only co-counsel with other law firms (which includes foreign law firms). Any request to work closely with a non-law firm constitutes a standard retainer.
For clarity, it used to be possible to work "labour only" through other law firms, but changes to the off-payroll tax rules have meant that is no longer an option.
