Closing a file under CQS

The Conveyancing Quality Scheme requires that you close a file promptly at the end of the matter. When you do, it requires that you:

  1. Report to the client on the outcome and explain any further action that the client is required to take in the matter and what (if anything) we will do.
  2. Contact the client for any outstanding money.
  3. Return to the client any original documents or other property belonging to the client (save for items which are to be stored by us).
  4. Advise the client whether, and if so when, they should review the matter in future.

These steps are in addition to your obligations to archive your files, see the next section.
