The scenarios described above cannot legislate fairly for every eventuality. If you are unsure or would like guidance, then, before approaching the relevant Client Owner or relevant client (as the case may be), you should discuss the matter with the Director of Community and Engagement. She will be the ultimate arbiter of client ownership and will act in a fair and equitable manner, bearing in mind that the principal aim here is to encourage and reward business development activity for the benefit of the firm as a whole, while not expressly competing against colleagues. Even if your Pod is awarded matter ownership, we will still encourage you to collaborate with the Client Owner (subject to any confidentiality obligations).
Where you are awarded matter ownership and a repeat situation occurs, you can again apply to own the new matter. This is determined by a truncated process. You should email the Clients Team with details of the client/matter number and a short explanation as to why this new matter should also be assigned to you. The Clients Team will usually be able to assign the new matter to you by return
