Other points to note

The following points are not new, but serve as a useful reminder:

  1. Proof of identity is usually a passport or photocard driving licence.
  2. For passports, you need a copy of the photo page, complete with the entire machine-readable zone (two lines of text at the bottom of a passport).
  3. Passports need to be in date.
  4. Proof of address is usually a utility bill or bank statement, dated in the last 6 months and showing their name and full address.
  5. Other regulated professionals can certify in this manner, but they need to email the documents and their statement that they have seen the original directly to the Clients Team or to you. The email cannot be to the client who passes it on to us. The certifier should provide the name of their regulator and their regulatory/roll number so we can verify their status.
  6. Given difficulties with obtaining new certified copies from lawyers and other regulated professionals, for now we can accept any copy certified within the last twelve (12) months.
  7. For data protections reasons, you should delete any copies of ID documents you are given once you have passed them on to the Clients Team. The Clients Team should be the sole custodians of this sensitive personal data.
