Signing on behalf of the client

We are sometimes asked by clients to sign contracts on their behalf. Signing a contract on behalf of a client increases the risk of fraud and claims. Given the availability of digital signatures (see Digital Execution) and the speed at which they will allow a client to sign a contract, there is now no need for you to sign a contract for your clients. If there is a compelling reason why a client cannot use digital execution, then a suitable limited (both by time and scope) power of attorney authorising you to sign a named document on the client's behalf would work.

Note: Engagement Letters and the Client Authorities to Transfer can only be signed by the client.
